The Death of King Josiah.
2,600 years ago...
There was a young king in the southern kingdom of Judah.
King Josiah.
A beloved king was known to his people and to God as someone with morals and virtue.
(morals 도덕성. virtue 미덕)
However
His life ended in misery.
Why did such a tragedy happen?
( tragedy 비극)
Josiah became king at the age of 8.
When he turned 16, he started calling out to God.
"God. How can we restore our crumbling nation?"
Josiah wiped out all the idols that his father and grandfather had made in Judah.
Then he began to repair God's temple.
During the reconstruction, he discovered forgotten "Book of the Law,"
(reconstruction 재건 discovered 발견된)
Which made him realize that his country had grieved God's heart with the numerous sins it had committed before Him.
He then read the "Book of the Law" to his people and made them follow it thoroughly.
(thoroughly 철저히)
Moreover, he revive the Passover Festival, during which people gave thanks to God in a grand manner.
In this way, with a sincere hear, Josiah did the things that God liked, and he also rebuilt Judah.
(sincere 진실된)
He was a great king who accomplished what previous kings could not do, and he did everything by himself.
(accomplish 해내다 previous 이전의,)
However, an issue had always concerned him.
(concern 걱정)
Judah was surrounded by strong nations, yet its own military power was weak.
For this reason, Josiah always prayed to God faithfully for his country's national defense.
(faithful 충실한)
One day, when Josiah was 39 years old.
The Egyptian army approached the kingdom of Judah.
(approach 다가오다.)
Josiah rushed out to confront them.
However, Necho, king of Egypt, sent messengers to Josiah and said,
"O king of judah, I have come today, not to attck you, but to battle with the enemies who fight against me. God is with me, so do not oppose Him. otherwise, God may destroy you."
This was God speaking to josiah.
God had listened to josiah's paryers and was resolving judah's issue of national defense through Egypt's aid.
At first, Josiah accepted those words and turned back.
"King, do you trust their words?"
"Do you really believe they will only pass through our country?"
"Don't you think they're going to destory us?"
"..."
'Actually. They may be right. The king might have come to attack my country.'
Josiah didn't listen to God's word spoken through Necho, king of Egypt, but trusted his officials instead.
He removed his royal garments and went out to battle.
(garment .
And then.
Since Josiah could not comprehend how God operates, he lost his life in an unnecessary battle.
Moreover, the army of judah was severely defeated by the Egytians.
Taking action without knowing how God works changes not only the fate of individuals, but also the fate of nations and the world.
(individual 개인, fate 운명)
At this very moment, God is hoping that you will properly understand how He is working in your life.
(proper 제대로 된)
